BUT first- a summary
Originally published as 'Rocket Boys', 'October Sky', by Homer Hickam illustrates his own high school years and beginning interest in rocketry. It starts when Sputnik, the Russian satellite is launched and the freshmen Homer, known as Sonny, finds that he wants to build something like it. So he and a few of his friends, aided by class nerd Quentin, start building rockets. Their first few are unsuccessful, and they are ridiculed, but then the football team goes on suspension and the rockets start to fly better. The Rocket boys become popular at their school, and the rockets go higher and higher. Aided by their ailing teacher Miss Frieda Riley, Sonny Hickam wins 1st place at the national science fair for 'Outstanding the the field of propulsion.'
COMPAre and contrast
First of all, the last rocket, the 6 ft one that the rocket boys launched off was NOT called the 'Miss Riley' in the book. It was called Auk. like the rest of the Rocket Boy's rockets.
Also, in the book, Valentine wasn't actually interested in Sonny at least not for long. It was mostly just... pity.

But, like in the book, Sonny did have a crush on Dorothy Plunk, who he got rejected by, because of his brother.
Also, in the book, the Rocket Boys got arrested, but unlike in the books, the boys got arrested for stealing telephones, not setting a forest fire.

I give the movie 2 stars out of 5 and the book 3 out of 5
Because, while interesting at parts, the book was so dry. most autobiographies are like that.
Also, the movie had little to do with the book.
