The red scare: communists in america? Americans in russia?
As the cold war began to heat up, Americans started to freak out over the communist threat in America.. This fear lead to interviews in the workplace for some federal officer. Their employers were trying to make sure their employees were loyal enough to America. Certain American Senators and other American agents investigated the Communist threat in American movies, plays, magazines and books of the time. The American's fear about Communism and the Russians is know today as the red scare, mostly because of the communists loyalty to the red soviet flag.
Americans were seriously convinced the soviets were going to come and invade America, as evident by the blatantly communist hating media of the time. They were convinced they were being betrayed by the Soviet Union and took the opportunity to call them out on it ALL the time. But the fear was not actually all that one sided. The Soviets also believed that Americans were out to get them, and they produced equally fearful american propaganda, which is not featured because I don't know Russian.
