ABOUT: THe history of the cold war
The Cold War is the name for the mostly political standoff between the USA and the Soviet Union. Its called the 'Cold War' because even though the two nations threatened each other with nuclear war, it never actually heated up into a true war, as both countries were afraid of actually fighting another war so soon after World War. With the threat of a 'hot' war, the USSR and USA threatened the entire world with destruction via nuclear weapons, so they fought indirectly, sponsoring different sides of warring nations, producing propaganda against the other and just generally fueling national hatred, that was finally brought to end in 1989, with the destruction of the Berlin Wall, which separated East Germany, under Soviet control, from West Germany, which was being aided by America, Great Britain and France.
The Cold War wasn't very cold, sometimes. And it got very close to being a VERY hot war, with the Cuban missile crisis. The Korean War and The Vietnam War were very real hot wars, meaning there was actual real conflict.
